Family Proverbs

Proverbs are popular sayings which contain advice or state a generally accepted truth. They function as “folk wisdom” about how to act and live. Proverbs are used to support arguments, to provide lessons and instruction, and to stress shared values.

What nugget of wisdom did your folks pass down to you?

  20. These are great! I can tell you all that our elders have been passing these down for a few generatiions now (because I recall hearing everyone of them myself when I was your age). What do you suppose this tells us about the significance of proverbs in our culture? Do the proverbs you shared have significance for you? Do you ever find yourself in situations in which you "hear" one of your elders saying these things to you? I sure do! Thanks for sharing these on your blog! I enjoy coming here to read and see what you are all writing about in Room 707! Writing rocks just like the digital natives in 707! Dr. Bagwell
