I’m from the sandy coastlines of southeast Georgia
Where the sunset kisses the Atlantic goodnight
And the moon rocks the tide back and forth.
I’m from fishermen casting probing nets in search of the ocean’s bounty
And crabbers casting ensnaring baskets to trap the king blue crab.
I’m from oyster beds that cut bare feet
And tangled fishing lines that snap at the jerk of a big one.

I’m from Sarasota, Fl, from a Jamaican family on a small island in the Caribbean on my father’s side. From their most famous curry chicken dish with rice and peas for dinner every other night. I’m from eating sardines, sawfish, and Ackee with dumplings, a delicious home-cooked meal, I’m also from spicy burn your mouth jerk chicken on special occasions, and from eating delicious Jamaican bun everyday for a snack.
I’m from going on a trip up North all the way up I-75 to go see my grandparents and other family members.
I’m from dancing for my sister to get money. I’m from: “if you keep cryin I’ma give you somethin to cry about.
